Another MLB (Major League Baseball) season, another year that the Chicago Cubs have fallen to the Curse of the Billy Goat in getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It was a post season that both club and fans were looking forward to, especially after clinching the NL Central despite a deficit of 8 1/2 games behind then leaders Milwaukee Brewers and having other situations that threatened to dismantle the hard work put into a long season. But once again, it ended in disappointment with the team failing to deliver when it mattered most.
Cubs fans will not be blamed for believing the Curse had struck again, and the Cubs enter 2008 knowing that it would be the 100th year since they last won the World Series, with a goat and its bitter owner still rolling in their graves cackling away.
So what has this got to do with any of us, you may be wondering?
If you look at seasons gone by, each year the Cubs have gone close to reaching the World Series, or been in a winning position, yet ended up blowing it, you would start hearing murmurs of the club being under the powerful hex, from fans, the media and even club staff.
An even crazier phenomenom would be everyone talking about it even before the post-season started. That is, IF the Cubs got that far.
If this does not sound familiar to you, I can certainly identify it as one of the most common mindsets that people have, yet unfortunately, are not able to take advantage of by turning it around for their own advancement in life:
If you believe in something hard enough, you will achieve it. It will become your reality.
Unfortunately, many people practise this to their own disadvantage. They believe that unless they had a unique idea, it would be better to not go into business and stick to their day jobs. The same people also dismissed the idea of making money online because such an idea was unfathomable to them. Have you ever known someone who always repeated that they were “not good enough”, “not smart enough”, “not good looking enough”, and sure as hell, they definitely did not go anywhere fast enough!
If you understand how this mindset can work for you, it will help create focus and burning commitment to something you believe in. If the nature of your belief and focus is positive, so too will your reality benefit you accordingly.
Poor Steve Bartman - they even destroyed the ball that prolonged the legend of the Curse, yet the team is looking forward to Spring training instead of a Pennant. So if you still believe in it and are a Cubs fan, book your vacation for the 2008 post-season. Afterall, the Chicago Cubs really just lose to a better team each year.

1Hey, look what the Boston Red Sox overcame! Not even Babe Ruth’s curse lasted forever.
Never give up!

2Yup the Red Sox overcame the longest lasting curse ever! Don’t feel bad that your Cubs didn’t make it they suck anyways ;) My Braves didn’t either. :)

4@ ZHereford - Listening to the Cubs fans and media, sometimes you wonder whether it’ll last forever ;)
@ Alex - Lol! Luckily I’m no Cubs fan ;)
@ Steven - They’re a good story every year tho’ - I guess that’s why the media just loves propagating the Curse. ;)

5I don’t follow baseball but when they finally break the curse like the Boston Red Sox did, those Cub fans will be celebrating for a long time. I like your analysis of the self fulfilling prophecy.

6Hey Chessnoid, I can still remember the euphoria that greeted the Boston Red Sox team when they finally ‘broke the jinx’. Thanks!
