Things were gnawing on his mind, giving Bob sleepless nights. He had been working hard to make money online for a few months now, with some results to show for. However, he wanted to do better. He wanted to be successful and make a living off it, to be his brilliant best at making money online.

Bob spent a good deal of time studying the gurus’ methods, following their advice on blogs, learning and applying them. He spied on his competition and adapted, built his network and got involved in the community. Yet Bob could not help but think that it was not enough. He wanted a surefire formula for success - something which would allow him to hurtle through the blogosphere and be that top online money maker that everyone aspired to.

What was left for Bob was to approach a reputed top money making blogger who could identify the sticking points of others, and provide solutions. Little did he know his teacher was fuming over the Patriots’ failed attempt to cover a 24 point spread against the Eagles, and penning a venomous hate mail to Bill Belichick when asked the million dollar question - “What can I do to make a full time income online via blogging and be really successful? I have done all the things taught by the gurus. Yet I feel that something is lacking. A strategy. How can I be the best?“.

“Well,” Master Bloga sighed, “It appears you’re just about doing it right, but perhaps a strategy and direction are called for. It might make you the best, we can never be sure. But it would surely allow you to be the very best you can be.”

“Ok,” Bob’s eyes widened, “so tell me now. Quickly. What is it?”

“It’s simple really - all you need to know are these four things.” said Master Bloga.

The first thing you need is talent. Now, when people hear ‘talent’, they are led to believe that only the best or a chosen few are deemed worthy to have that magical quality pulsing in their veins. Little do they know that we are all unique in different ways, and have attributes that allow us to excel in certain areas, and others less.

You need to pick a niche that plays to your strengths, gives you advantages over others, and allows you to perform at your best. Give careful thought to where you decide to venture forth, and ask if it is what you are comfortable with. Allow your talents to prosper in areas where they are most suitable.

Next, you need to develop and maintain focus. Can you retain your enthusiasm, interest and desire on the chosen niche? Or will it last for all of 5 minutes before you jump from blogging to selling second hand Chanel bags on eBay? Would you be like the others who blog 60 posts in their first month, all excited, before disappearing back into their surfing world after their second?

The top bloggers in every niche took years to reach their present incarnation. Their focus comes from an enduring commitment to their chosen fields of endeavor. To be the best at what you are doing, focus is crucial.

Staying focused lays the foundation. But you have to raise the pillars with consistent effort. Pure hard work. Challenge yourself to go one better. Pressure yourself by setting goals and targets. Do not just achieve them - improve on them wherever you can. Getting to the top can be a real easy ride if you know the steps, but if you just go through the motions, sliding back down and hitting the ditch will result. To be the best, you have got to beat the best. And that might just be you.

Finally, you have heard this often enough when champions win under trying circumstances. Opponents are quick to attribute this to champion’s luck. You certainly need a dose of good luck as there will be times when certain things might be beyond control. Talent can be plentiful, you stay focused and work your butt off, but still do not hit the heady heights of success.

Yet, do not fall into the trap of blaming this on bad luck. It is easy to do so, but it could just as well be poor decisions, temporary lack of focus, or taking a quick shortcut when the little devil in the left ear started whispering. Be quick to understand that you concentrate on what can be controlled. If you do justice to the first three requirements, good luck will more often than not follow you, just like it does every champion. And if it fails to do so, remember too that a true champion - the very best - hits back twice as hard when the chips are down.

Talent, focus, hard consistent effort and luck - remember these and guide your endeavors along the same path.” Master Bloga nodded wistfully as he turned back to watch the Dolphins get buried.

Bob gave his thanks and was already planning eagerly in his mind as he left. With these wise words, he begun his journey to become the best.
