Posted by YC as Success, Make Money Online
Back when I was a professional IT Consultant, I always thought I had everything figured out why I would never be as successful in the job compared to my peers. The domain was of little interest to me and my reasoning was I no longer had the mental capacity to absorb technical areas such as programming and technological application in different niches. To me, it was just a job and regular paycheck.
I see and hear people saying that there is no way they can produce any content in any particular niche because they don’t know anything about it nor have a special affinity. This is despite being told that these niches are gold due to one reason or another (e.g. associated with higher paying keywords, better paying affiliate programs).
It was over a week ago when I bore the same mentality. Hey, (insert something like credit cards, loans, mortgages etc) wasn’t something that could keep me awake, so writing about it was out of the question. So what if it could make me money?
Until one fine day, I decided to give it a shot. Not credit cards mind you, but some other niche which I thought was beyond my intellect or interest. 1 day, a new site, and some traffic later, Adsense put more money into my account in a couple of hours than this site managed to pull off in half a month.

That’s about $5 per day for 1 site. Ok, so I’m not exactly pulling in the big cents, but it does show you that it can be done (for those that are still trying like me). And this doesn’t include other monetisation methods I included.
Going through this experience, I learnt more about myself and how possibly wasted my life might have been. Taking action was all well and good, but the truth was that I had gotten lazy in life. I was not willing to push the envelope just a little bit more. Reading up on something wasn’t difficult (especially if there’s money to be made from it). Come to think about it, putting it into realisable tangibles was a breeze. That basic new site took me less than an hour to set up. Content came naturally after reading about the subject and some from personal experience - it still served readers’ interest. At the end of the whole event, I had developed some interest in the niche. The whole preconception had been shattered.
Of course, there are other little adjustments that goes into the result, like knowing where the demand is and getting the traffic. But if I had allowed myself to continue believing that having no interest in something was an obstacle in achieving an optimum result, than I was seriously deluding myself. It was plain laziness to try!
The old cliche of “If you set your mind to it, you can achieve wonders” rings true. Could you also be avoiding a little hard work? And in the process, be your own obstacle to making money online successfully?

1YC I always find it interesting when someone writes from a personal point of view or how they experience things. Very enjoyable.

2Indeed. Success online is connected to how hard you work. However, in some areas is just out of your hand. But, in areas such as promoting your site, or writing that killer article, is in one’s hand. It just depend on how hard you work at it.

6“You are what you think of” :)
Think yourself as a millionaire and you will be a millionaire in the future. It’s not being stupid minded, but that what the law of attraction is! :P
It’s that your earning for 3 days for this blog, YC? That’s awesome!

9kudos to you for getting your idea in to a reality, I also tried to make some niche website and although it was easy enough to make them and write about them, I am just too busy(or lazy!) to keep them populated with new content for very long!
make just 5 sites that make 5 dollars a day and you’ll have an empire worth nearly 10k per year, not bad for something that you don’t have to invest too much money with..
good luck with getting those dollars higher

11Well I never make any niche website. Right now all my time is focused on running my PPC campaign. Hope you are doing well with your niche website. And remember don’t just putt your eggs on one basket, don’t rely on Adsense or one income model. :)

12@ Z - Cheers! Just putting my own personal spin on things :)
@ Dom - Yes hard work is necessary.
@ David - Will talk to you about it :)
@ Steven - You’re most welcome! I think I have much more to learn from yourself!
@ Emma - Thanks Emma! Didn’t really market it. Just told people in the niche where to look for it, because I know the demand is there locally. :)
@ Ken - It’s not for this blog (IMM), it’s for another new blog that I just created last week.
@ Maura - Thanks! I’ll try - still thinking on how to present that. It wouldn’t work for every niche, and it was a local demand (Singapore). But I guess it could be conceptualised for others in some way or other.
@ Sean - Hey Sean you’re quite an inspiration too! Like your go forth attitude - keep goin’ bud you’re well on your way!
@ Andy - Yes that boredom or attention deficit thing can be a bane - it can happen to me too, but one way I handle it was to realise that I don’t have to post everyday. Just periodically.
@ Cherry - Hey any website/blog has a niche! :) It’s cool you’re using PPC - I haven’t gotten my hands dirty in that area. :) Oh yeah, definitely gotta diversify :)
