Time and again I have seen advice from make money online A Listers that you should write about stuff you are passionate about and then the readers and money will eventually come. While that is true in a general sense, the truth is that unless the ’stuff’ you are passionate about happens to be big ticket items or niches where there is huge demand and profit potential, you will probably be getting little interest, traffic and revenue, if at all. Writing about areas that you have passion in is common sense advice, but at the end of the day, it is crap advice if you intend to make any money online and it will limit your ability to grow and build an online empire.
Another common worry that a lot of people looking to expand into niche marketing often have is that they are not sure if writing on a niche alien to them would be possible. I was not born a Casanova nor grew up a natural with women, but writing romance short stories and about dating was never too much of a difficulty after I turned 12. All that happened was reading a few epic Chinese romance novels and using a little imagination, even my female teachers developed crushes on me. Although I cannot reveal what transpired since it would have been incredibly scandalous, the main gist is that nobody was born knowing or having interest in anything. Your passions would have been developed from the time you left your mother’s womb and if life was not a continuous journey of learning, then yes, you would be someone who would not be able to succeed making money online.
A better suggestion would be to learn how to write about topics or niches that have the demand or where the money is. You do not need to be enthralled by something to be able to produce articles or content. There is not even a need to produce a piece of art for people to pay you what a real art piece would command. There is so much on the Internet nowadays on just about every topic available, all that is required is some research and practice rewriting. There are even automated content creation software that you could use, although I tend not to use them as my personal writing output tends to be more productive. The age old method of rewriting PLR articles still hold true if you want something quick as well, and they free you from having to think up of new content every now and then.
If you actually want to be a writer, then go ahead and stick to writing what you are passionate about. If you want to make money online, then ask yourself what your primary objective really is before whining about how hard it is to make an article about telescopes when you do even know what a pair of binoculars are.

1You are right, developing is worth all the money. I wouldn’t pay too much on a high PR domain, but I would do it for a domain which ranks well for my desired terms.

2Hey, you’re back! I’m glad to see you continue blogging. You are very good at writing and I enjoy reading your posts. Many people can write this and that but it requires some skills and talent to write very good blog posts. You are a good writer!
About the topic. I agree with you. My passions are related to music, skiing, mountain bikes and astronomy. Ok, coffee and booze as well, but let’s stick in the first ones :)
I can write about those things for free and I can do it daily. I just enjoy those things very much. Anyhow, when building a business, passion is just not enough. You need to have various skills, you must be active and you need to be ready to do the boring stuff as well. You even need to do the job until your employees have learned their role. Anyhow, I would say the most important thing you have to master when building business is networking. You need people to help you and for that networking helps. Additionally you must be able to get people work for you. Even for free in the beginning! Now we come to one more very important thing and it is motivating people. The point is that you must get people work with you. You cannot grow alone. You cannot have 100 people company alone.
And so on.. It is 20 pm here in Finland and it looks like I’m going to work the whole night. I need to finish few co-operation letters. Yeah, being the leader of a company is not always easy. Hopefully the Internet is full of metal music. I remember you like Megadeth. Check out this newcomer from Finland. I like these guys very much.

Anyhow, great to see you back!

3All good advice but when getting started in any business it’s always good to look at what interests you.
Do you need a huge passion? Probably not, but what you do need howver is motivation and if getting into something that complelely doesn’t interest you just because it’s a high paying niche won’t keep you motivated. After all when someone gets asked what they like about their job they generally will say, the people, the hours or the work itself, they don’t often say “I love my job because it makes me a lot of money”.
The idea is to work your interests into something that can make you money while having a healthy interest. For example if you love dogs, turn that into a website where you can promote dog products but if you hate sales or selling then perhaps writing ‘how to’ books on caring for your pets is a better suggestion.
Maybe a better way to put is to think about what you like to ‘do’ as opposed to what you ‘like’. It doesn’t take a PH.D. to be a more knowledgeable in something than the average person, a little research and some dedicated time can put you up to speed on giving people the information they need. After all if it’s your business, you’re dedicating the time to learn about something when others don’t have the time, that alone makes others appreciate you and come to and consider you as having ‘expert’ status.

4All good advice but when getting started in any business it’s always good to look at what interests you. - have to agree with you there
Monotenising your website too soon can make the site look cheap and unprofessional depening on what type of site your running ti can be good or bad.
Being enthusustic for the niche your woroking on is good.
