One of the most oft-used phrase in Internet Marketing is “time or money“. What the experts are trying to tell you is that if you have money to spend, use it to build your Internet Marketing business. Such as advertising and marketing or outsourcing your product creation process. But if you do not have available capital but have all the time in the world, use the ‘free methods’ as substitutes to achieve the same success.
Gurus with conscience will also remind you that these methods require patience and… time. If you do not want to spend any money, use time and learn how to create traffic and make money online with free tactics.
Which brings me to my point - there is no such thing as a ‘free method’. The cliche “time is money” cannot ring truer in this situation. In fact if you were to study the amount of time required to build a website yourself, it would be more expensive compared to the amount of money spent hiring someone else to do it. Add to that the opportunity cost of your time. Unless you can get up to speed fast with the technical aspects, otherwise most aspiring Internet Marketers enter the fray as total newbies. Many of them end up frustrated just as well.
This is not to say that you will be on a losing track staying with ‘free methods’. Here are 3 simple things you can do to maximise your investment and achieve optimum results:
1. Equip yourself with the necessary technical skills
HTML, CSS - even simple knowledge such as learning how to ftp files can help to speed up the process of building your Internet business. The beginning might be tough, but with constant practice, pretty soon you will be the one making money doing stuff like this for others.
2. Be focused - become an expert in specific methods
There are a million and one ‘free methods’ to make money online - so much so it is easy for beginners to get confused. Too much time is spent exploring too many ‘tricks’. Most would end up without any significant results. Learn to focus your efforts on a select few which you are most comfortable with in terms of time required and resources available. Remember this - “jack of all trades, master of none”. Become a master.
3. Time management
Hey, your most precious asset now is your time! If you had a fortune, would you not think of implementing a structure to manage it and fully utilise its potential? Diversify your portfolio and maximise your investment returns. Apply the same principle to your time.
If you do not go down the road of spending money to outsource your Internet Marketing ventures, what are some of the other methods you use to ensure that your time is well-spent?

1My most challenging point would be the time management. It’s quite overwhelming to learn everything you need to know to run your blog/website well. Come to think of it - all three of these points are a challenge.
Another good article YC!

2Time management is a huge issue for me. There’s not enough hours in the day to do everything I need to, which include researching other blogs, reading up on the latest methods, testing out design ideas, configuring new WordPress tweaks, answering e-mails, checking stats, writing new posts etc.

3Yea, is such a pain to make a website unless you are using a blogging platform. I’m still learning how to modify my website and all those codes gives me a headache. I spent way too much time fiddling my website but I get to learn it and use it later on which is still good.

6@ ZHereford - Thanks Z! Definitely all 3 are skills that take time to perfect in themselves. We could always ask Sean for pointers ;)
@ Chris - I still have problems with that from time to time. In the future, it might be the best to outsource as well - what do you think?
@ David - The beginning is always tough, but once you get the hang of it, eyes closed, done!
@ Chessnoid - I hope you will continue reading :)
@ Sean - But just as many people have issues financially, so ebooks might be out of reach as well. But good point!
